FORCE'S LINE OF ACTION, AXIS OF ROTATION

The distance, d' is measured as the length of the perpendicular line segment between the force's line of action and the object's axis of rotation as shown. If a force is applied at the pivot its distance and moment could be zero. The location of the pivot is arbitrary and can be chosen anywhere on the object.
