ELECTROLYSIS-QN04

Explain the following briefly

i) Ionic theory of electrolysis
ii) Migration of ions

  • Soln:

    i) Ionic theory.

    • During electrolytes dissolve in water to dissolve in water to dissociate their molecules, their dissociation is called IONIZATION.
    • The dissociation of molecules yields positive charge (CATION) and Negative charge.
    • Positive charge migrates to the cathode electrode and negative charge migrate to Anode electrode.

    ii) Migration of ions.

    • This is the movement of positive and negative charged particles to their respective electrode when electric circuits are connected.
    • Positive charge (cation) move to the cathode electrode while negative charged particles (Anion) move to the Anode electrode.
