CHEMISTRY | MOLE CONCEPT | Question 18

a) Give the meaning of the following terms
i/ Excess reagents
ii/ limiting reagents
b) How to identify the limiting and excess reagent in stoichiometry?

  • a/ the meaning of:

i/ Excess reagent refer to the chemical substain remain after the chemical reaction.
ii/ Limiting reagent refer to the chemical substance that are consumed during chemical reaction.
  • b/ Determination of limiting and excess reagents in chemical reaction.

    Formula,
    Use a mole ratio
Mole ratio = mole reacted / Mole from equation (coefficient moles)

The smallest ratio is the limiting reagent.
The highest (largest) mole ratio is excess reagent.
