CHEMISTRY | MOLE CONCEPT | Question 04

Based on the balanced equation
C4H8 + 6O2 → 4 CO2 + 4 H2O

Calculate the number of excess reagent units remaining when 28 C4H8 molecules and 228 O2 molecules react.

  • DATA GIVEN:

    Mole of C4 = 28 moles
    Mole of O2 = 228 O2
    Equation
    C4 + 6 O2 → 4 CO2 + 4 H2O
  • Mole of excess reagent

    Mole ratio for C4H8
    = 28 moles /1 mole
    = 28
    Mole ratio for O2 = 228 moles / 6 moles
    = 38
Limiting is C4 While Excess is O2 from
    I mole of C4 Ξ 6 mole of O2
    28 moles of C4 Ξ ?? of O2

    = 28 mole × 6 mole /1 mole
    = 168 moles of O2 of reacted

Mole remain = original mole – reacted mole
    = 228 – 168
    = 60 mole
Mole of excess reagents remain was 60 units.
