Volumetric-QN06

What volume concentrated sulphuric acid is required to prepare 0.4m of 750ml dilute sulphuric acid. (given; mw = 98, density= 1.84g/cm3). H = 1

  • Soln:

    Data:

    Molarity of H2SO4 = 0.4m (dilute)
    Volume of dilute H2SO4 = 750 ml

    Asked
    Volume of concentrated H2SO4

    To find: molarity of Conc.

    Mc = (density × purity × 1000) / Mw
    = (1.84g/cm3 × 98/100 × 1000) / 98
    = 18.4 m

    From, McVc = MdVd

    Vc = MdVd / Mc
    = (0.4M × 750ml) / 18.4
    = 16.3ml

    Volume of concentrated sulphuric acid required was 16.3 cm3
