Volumetric-QN08

0.4 m of dilute sulphuric acid was reacted with sodium carbonate in the experimental done in chemistry laboratory

volumetric

i) Work out mean volume
ii) Write the balance chemical equation
iii) What is the number of moles for?

a. Base reacted
b. Acid reacted

  • Soln:

    i) The average volume (A.V)
    Average volume = (VI + VII + VIII) / 3

    = (24.90 + 14.90 + 25.20) cm3 / 3
    = 25.00cm3

The average volume was found to be 25.00cm3

ii) To write the balanced chemical equation
    HSO4(aq) + Na2CO3(aq) → Na2SO4aq + H2O(I) + CO2(g)

iii) a. To find the number of base reacted from molecule equivalent

    1 mole of H2SO4 Ξ 1 mole of Na2SO3
    0.01 mole of H2SO4 Ξ ??

    = (0.01 mole × 1 mole) / 1
    = 0.01

0.01 mole of base was reacted in Experiment.

    b. To find the number of acid reacted
    Na = MaVa
    = 0.4 M × 0.025 dm3
    = 0.01 mole

The number of moles of acid reacted was 0.01 mole
