(a) Why the inner core of the earth is solid while the outer core is liquid? Briefly explain.
(b) The frequency obtained from a plucked string when the tension is 2 N is 400 Hz. Calculate the frequency when the tension is increased by 6 N.
SECTION 01
(a) Why the inner core of the earth is solid while the outer core is liquid? Briefly explain.
As you go deeper and deeper in the Earth both temperature and pressure increases, temperature support melting of the core and pressure supports solidification of the inner core. Regardless of the inner core being very hot, it is also under very high pressure which make it solid rather than liquid. The pressure in the outer core is not high enough to make it solid hence it forms a liquid layer.
SECTION 02
(b) The frequency obtained from a plucked string when the tension is 2 N is 400 Hz. Calculate the frequency when the tension is increased by 6 N.
Data:
T1 = 2N and f1 = 400Hz
T2 = 6N and f2 = ?
Solution:
The frequency generated by 6N string will be 692.8 Hz
